Santi’s coming to town

Arsenal fans will be excited by news filtering through that Santi Carzola will sign for Arsenal soon. Most people are not too aware of the qualities of Santi especially as he neither plays for the big 2 in Spain and neither does he start for the Spanish national team.

Competition for the Spanish midfield include Xavi, Inniesta, Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Martinez, Navas, Mata, Fabregas, Silva and of course Santi Carzola and Arsenal’s very own Arteta. Also the youngsters include Thiago, Oriol Romeu, Iker Muniain and Ander Herrera. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that Santi does not get many games for the Spanish national team.

For more on Santi we have the following links:

From the Mirror where David Cartlidge feels that  “Perhaps with a move to a bigger stage – like David Silva took when moving to Manchester City – his talents will get the platform they deserve.”

Arse 2 Mouse interviews Luis from Opta’s Madrid Office. Opta is one of the best resources for sports data and has one of the biggest and best database of sports information.

A 2011 article by Sid Lowe where he writes: ” It is not just that they have so many good players, but that they are of such a specific type. Cazorla’s type. Technical, quick-footed, intelligent, tactically astute, visionary. Small.”

Another 2011 Sid Lowe article on Santi for Sports Illustrated when he signed for Malaga for €19 million ($25.4M).

And finally some interesting stats complied by Arsenal Report such as being ranked as the 4th best best player in La Liga behind Ronaldo, Messi and Xavi last season.
